A professional carpet cleaner told me that the body oils on the hair make it adhere.

I have the same problem and can't answer why it sticks, but I can tell you how to remove it. Get some rubber gloves (the kind you do dishes and housework in) and drag your hand across the furniture, draperies, clothing. Keep doing this and the hair will roll up in the direction you are moving your hand. It works kind of like a lint brush and it works better than a vacuum.

It seems to just naturally adhere because of the texture of the fabric. Most have a "nap," even if it isn't obvious.

Best thing to do about it is frequent vacuuming, with liberal use of brushes, special sponges, or mitts meant for pet hair removal, in between vacuum sessions.

I can't win - I have a black and white cat, so I'm in trouble whether I wear dark or light clothing! But my pets are worth the trouble!!

short haired dog fur has barbs on it that make it even harder to clean up. Other animals, I think have to do w/ static, or just like lint the types of fabric just cling to things.
