My elderly father has swollen feet. I was thinking it could be a reaction from antihistamines, alcohol and eating too much salt plus he is over weight and on high blood pressure medicine. Of course he is thinking it is the end, but I chose the optimistic approach and suggested that it was possibly heat edema or allergy related. I had the unpleasant experience of rubbing cream on his feet and noticed they were very warm. Personally I think it is the whiskey, he has five drinks almost every night. I don't use alcohol and I can't preach, even so I suggested some changes may be required.

Poor circulation and salt will do it, tell him to raise his feet up so its more then level with the heart that will help and he should make sure his walking every day to help getting the blood moving. and if he like whiskey no problem it thins the blood so maybe its doing some good, just remember to much is not good but a few a night is not to bad. besides if his been a drinker all his life who are we to say to him stop know that his older.

Ask his doctor, take him immediately. He has a lot of health issues and can't expect to be healthy. The doctor is going to tell him he drinks too much, but you know what? He is an adult and wants to enjoy the end of his life, so if he doesn't stop, and he continues, let him be. Preaching will only aggravate him and frustrate you.
