Its the same thing. Camcorders is the original word. I dont know exactly how handycam word came into being, but my guess is that it was just a nickname of the camcorders that came into being, since camcorders of today are pretty light and small and u can carry it easily. U know its 'handy' and its a 'cam' :)

Camcorder means CAMera+reCORDER, handycam are also know as camcorder but not all the camcorder can be called as handycam.
As handycams are those camcorder which are small in size or we an say which is light weighted and handy.
Like professional camcorders cannot be called as handycam, as they r pretty big in size compared to handycam

Handycam is a product line by sony. Camcorders are picture recording devices in general.
