I hate to say this, but you got it ALL wrong!

Ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) is neither alkaline nor acide. It is a SALT, and therefore neuter. It is water soluble and dissociates completely into NH4+ and Cl-. As you have an equal number of positive and negative charged ions, the total charge is 0.

I never used ammonium chloride in the lab, but this is what I found:

it as a source of ammonia:

2NH4Cl + 2CaO → CaCl2 + Ca(OH)2 + 2NH3

It is used in manufacturing ammonium perchlorate (NH4ClO4):

NaClO4 + NH4Cl → NH4ClO4 + NaCl

It is sold in blocks at hardware stores for use in cleaning the tip of a soldering iron and can also be included in solder as flux.

Other uses include a feed supplement for cattle, in hair shampoo, in textile printing, in the glue that bonds plywood, as an ingredient in nutritive media for yeast, in cleaning products, and as cough medicine.

NH4Cl + H2O ---> NH4+ + OH- + H+ + Cl-

The aqueous ammonia formed is a weak base, and so does not fully. Some would exist as NH4OH while others as NH4+ and OH-.

The hydrochloric acid formed is a strong acid, and so ALL the H+ and Cl- are dissociated from HCl.

As there are more H+ than OH- present, the solution is acidic.

Since it's a compound of ammonia, I would think that it's a strong alkaline.
