As far as friendly behavior goes, the two are very different. But aggressive behavior in cats and dogs has some similarities. In almost all realms of the animal kingdom, staring is used as a threat. Both cats and dogs growl and vocalize, and some cats will bare their teeth like dogs do. Body posture is very stiff. Hair on the animal's body is raised to make it look bigger to whoever it feels threatened by. Both species also use biting as a major defense.
