I am a web designer and i have just started a new site that offers free stock photos. I need a camera to take close up shots, distant shots and everything in between. I would prefer digital as it would be easier to upload photos. but non digital is ok too. new or used. any suggestions. thank you for you help.

thanks ara57. yeah the site is for stock photos for people to use in their designs etc. not for portfolio use.
I will look into getting a bit more money for a camera and a film reader or something. Is there any digital cameras that will be just good enough for stock photos?

Stock photos from a $150 camera??? If you are talking about "real" stock photos, then a cheap digicam isn't going to cut it. A digicam would be all right for posting photos in your website, but not for stock photos, even if they're free. On the other hand, if you mean you just want people to be able to print out a snap so they can see your work, an entry level Canon, Nikon, Kodak or Olympus would probably work.

You can get a good used film SLR and a 50mm lens for that price or a bit more. But then you're faced with the problem of how to get the pictures on your site. A 1-hour minilab scan won't be enough resolution for stock, and a flatbed scan of a print, negative, or slide lacks the necessary quality. So you'll need to have a good film scan, either from a dedicated film scanner or a pro lab.

I hate to say it, but I think you're going to have to shell out some more dough to get the setup you need for stock photography.

Good luck!
