It has already lasted for ten years. Does anybody think it will still stand thirty years from now?

Its probably the most impressive track record of all time & will last for some time.
But maybe if it is to be broken soon one of the 3 Americans Xavier Carter, Tyson Gay or Wallace Spearmon will be the one to do it.
It will take the perfect race with a top quality field & a barely legal wind reading to do it. Maybe Beijing 2008 Olympic Final?...

Just like Carl Lewis had his records broken so will Michael.
Michael has a protege named Jeremy Wariner that he works with now, who is one of the top 400 meter guys, and just started to run the 200.
I think within 10 years it will drop.
Still thats along time for it to hold up.

Records are made to be broken.

However, from this point forward, that record should only see very, very incremental improvement. That is unspeakably fast. It will take a very special athlete on the right day.

I could see it standing for another 10 years, but it will be broken at some point.

A bigger question is will it be broken by a clean or "enhanced" athlete. The cheaters are far ahead at this point.

Without the use of steriods, it would be exciting to see another runner beat 19seconds in the 200. Maybe in 2008...
