Believe it or not...there are some products that we normally think of as White people products that work wonders on black hair.
For washing and conditioning: All of Paul Mitchell products are top notch (especially the Awapuhwi Shampoo)! They don't strip the natural oils from your hair (so it won't dry and break off at the ends) and they smell great. For finishing and shine, look no further than Aveda. Their grooming aids are a bit pricey, but I can't tell you how they are so worth it! You didn't specify whether you were a male or female so I can't go into too much detail. One of my secrets: After washing my hair (with Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo) and a light conditioner, I'll apply a light pomade for my waves, brush it, tie it down with a do-rag. But when it's time to go out, I'll add a finishing product. My favorite: Solid Grooming Aid by Kiehl's.

Assuming you mean a type not a color of hair, I would suggest John Frieda. He had a line specifically for women of color, but I think it just got combined with his regular products. For shampooing I use the Panteen stuff but am in the process of finding a better product. But after I wash I use John Frieda thing for damp hair and it cuts my blow drying time by 50%. I suggest ask you beautician/hair dresser but note they may send you to some expensive product lines. Some key tips are make sure you grease your scalp weekly and wash your hair AT LEAST every two weeks. I wash mine every week because of my active lifestyle.

Mainly I experiment and have a lot of crazy hair days. I hope this helps. Oh and Kera Care is highly recommended by my friends.

For black hair I'd suggest using Hair Serum, like Frizz Ease or Paul Mitchell, if you have frizzy hair or would like to give it a natural shine.
