First of all this conversion thing is a misconception. It is the brain child of a few political parties to gain votes from the gullible people. No Missionaries try conversion. What they do is show them a better choice. If they like it, they will take it. Why should anyone be denied a better living choices? The primary goal of any missionary is education and medical facilities to the poor people. The political parties are not interested in their education. They want the people to remain uneducated, so that they can have their power over them and rule over them. By education, they will be freed from all the miseries of life. So the politicians are labeling the missionaries as anti nationals and trying to convert to other religion. That is not true.

Missions and Missionaries has become a Vocation, with chances of going abroad, staying abroad, living among queer people. The Donors back home have too much money to spend on 'charity'. There are Missions over a 100 years old, with hardly any success in conversions. But, if you are close enough, you may see the 'secret' reports sent home. Full of imaginary success stories. Apart from their Religion, what they often succeed in is the exporting of culture. Minute details about daily chores come from 'Home'. I was amazed why the members of a certain long established mission take their Tea at 4 P.M. on hot Indian afternoon. The reply: Our minute to minute schedule comes from Netherland ! The Missions have spoiled many cultures, abroad. Dress, Dialect, Music, Etiquettes and what not is westernised. That is their greatest success. Some Missionaries themselves are not very good Christians. On failure to convert the indigenous, they begin converting Christians of other Churches to their own Church. Back home, their Church may be shrinking, and the Church building put on ' S A L E ' .

Proselytizing (preaching to non-believers in an attempt to convert them) is only practiced by a subset of all the world's religion. The two most powerful proselytizing religions are Christianity and Islam. So you see, they are constantly trying to convert one another, and also people with no religion or ones that do not push.

Proselytizing is seen as a duty by Christians, and presumably by Muslims as well. The idea is that anyone who is not a member of their religion is in peril of eternal torment, being cut off from God, etc. They are, by their standards, saving souls.

To the rest of us, they seem simply rude.

I used to be inclined to agree. I figured if a person had never heard of Jesus, then they couldn't be judged for refusing to believe.
Then I saw a movie, and it kind of changed my mind. Ever heard of the Waodani tribe, deep in the jungles of Ecuador? They had nearly killed each other into extinction...until some missionaries came to them, and told them about how their God, the Waegongi, didn't want them to kill each other anymore. Now, the Waodani are alive and well, and have many more living than what ever would have been hoped.
THAT'S why missionaries go out and try to convert people.

People convert for a number of reasons, but not because of a missionary. A missionary is one who presents information which the individual may choose to believe or not to believe.

Missionaries means that they are on some mission. It does not matter if their mission is good for humanity or not. They are brain washed to believe that theirs is the only true religion, and if they help convert other non believers(according to them) to their religion, god will reward them.

It's true that all religions teach some good things. But it's best if the people get a chance to get the most light and truth they can. The president of the Church of Jesus Christ has expressed the idea something like, "What you have is good; let us give you more."

Because every religion believers believe their religion in the one.

Islam believes in all religions and acknowledges them - unlike other religions that deny Islam. From an Islamic point of view, it is only a matter of time; at a time Judaism was the religion chose for humanity, then it was Christianity when Jesus was sent. It was time for Islam when Prophet Muhamed was sent.

With due respect to everyone

Well, with the exception of one religion, they need converts to stay financially stable.

I have no idea why.....?????

But I wish it would bloomin heck stop!!!

Thats one thing I cannot stand at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.......christian missionaries extending help to the poor and then only on the condition that they turn to christ and christianity.

I don't believe in Sin or the word itself.....but I think thats a sin. Big time.

Yes go there and help but never on the condition they need to turn to christianity. Help them yes but leave them intact with their own religion whatever that may be.

Peace
