Actually that statemet is incorrect, the saying should be, "If you truly love someone, you must be able to set them free." This saying bluntly means that you can love them without always having them in your life. You see love is tricky, sometimes it can be blind, but even if so, you still love, and you can miss someone and grieve for them, but you still have that love in your heart waiting to be shared with new love.

You are responding to my previous answer it seems.

It is absolutely always true because freedom relates to free will that is essential to LovE.

Without free will there is no question of love.

Always let your loved one be free, and trust them that they will be faithful to you, until they give reason otherwise.

While you are in love and living out your relationship you will be happier by being trusting and they by you giving them freedom.

As soon as they break it you have issues. Until then don't live in an atmosphere of suspicion, confinement, coersion and compulsion. That will degrade the quality of the relationship experience for you both.

So set them free and trust they will come back. It is not a question of breaking off the relationship but keeping it going healthy and happily.

Give me freedom (liberty) or give me death.

Not only do I agree, I lived it. My husband has never been jealous, we have been married for about 14 years and I have never felt trapped. Actually I've done a lot of things that he didn't deserved, he has always given me my space and has set me free. After a while I learned that he was the one who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. His love has conquered me. Now I am deeply in love with him.

NO!!!!!
Look at it this way, take a rope, break it, now tie it back toghether, ITS NEVER the same
that whole break up and give me some space stuff is a bunch of stuff DON"T BUY IT.
I've been married for 12 years now and there's no replacement for sticking it out, talking it out, figuring it out, and listening it out.
Anyway Good Luck and God Bless

It worked with me and my fiance. I really liked him when we first started talking and dating. We decided to take a break, but ended up not being able to stay away from each other. We're now engaged to be married next fall and have a baby due in 9 days :)

Dear Beth, setting him free can make him wander and maybe he may choose something awkward.best thing is stay put with him understand his needs and respect him.Tell him about your feeling towards him and show him that u care.Respect his individuality and yours too.dont bend too much to impress him.but dont try to be too snooty.if he understand love he will surely fall for u.best wishes with u

yes.. whoever said that is one wise fellow.. you gotta let go of the one you love to figure out where it went wrong and not playing wit' their mind.. because the mind is very delicate and tricky that they need time to re-adjust the current situation.. if they say let 'em go, do not interfere.. they'll come around..
