Is it true that you and your children study the bible on a daily basis? i know of a young JW who says that she has free time scheduled in every few weeks where she gets to play and stuff - does that mean after school she would come home and study the bible, eat dinner and then go to bed?

We try very hard to study at least one or two scriptures on a daily basis. Your young Jehovah's Witness friend may come from a family which is exceptionally spiritual but, this is not the norm. Most of us struggle to find time for spiritual things and our lives are fairly hectic just like yours. AND each of us are individuals so we all have different interests, different levels of devotion and different family obligations, etc.

In answer to your first question, "Is it true that you and your children study the bible on a daily basis??" The answer is Yes, if at all possible all Christians should study or at least read some of the Bible each day.
As to the young Witness girl's scheduling reasons I cannot say. Every parent must decide what is best for their child, abiding it is within Bible principles. If you are really curious about her schedule I suggest you politely and tactfully ask her or her parents. Just remember that you do not want to do anything to belittle the girl or her parents. Hope this helps.

You have some good answers above, and should realize that the children are still allowed to be children. I know I did growing up, by how many times I got into trouble for doing things I shouldn't have been, like playing in the old abandoned house down the street.

At least with the witnesses, they teach the children themselves and don't expect the public schools to do it. They also don't have the problems that result from all the children in a church being relegated to learning from just one adult. JWs also have no fear of their children learning about evolution and actually encourage it, as it gives them a better understanding of what has happened since the Great Flood.

Small children may not fully understand what they are learning, any more than they understand a lot of what they learn in school, but they are collecting knowledge, and when they reach the age of understanding, they have a good basic knowledge of it. Enough so that they are able to study with other children they own age.

It is true that parents among Jehovah's Witnesses never forget about the benefits that come from a knowledge of God and the bible, and they try to be diligent in imparting spiritual appreciation to their children.

Since very young children have short attention spans, many Witness parents do recognize the benefit of studying for a few minutes each day rather than for an hour or more once a week. This may be something as simple as reading a chapter from the bible, and asking the child simple questions about the reading as it progresses.

Other parents among Jehovah's Witnesses simply read a bedtime story from a publication such as "My Book of Bible Stories" or "Learning from the Great Teacher". Each parent can best determine the level of interaction appropriate at different age levels.

Without knowing the full story about this family it would be hard to answer for them.

We are encouraged to read the bible daily.

To keep physically healthy, we eat everyday.
To keep spiritually healthy, should we do less?

There is also school work, home chores, and weekly meetings we attend.

Every parent is encouraged to make sure that "play and recreation" is included in every young witnesses' life.

The idea that every child should 'only play' is a misguided thought, and wishful thinking.

Children need to learn many things, including responsiblity.

i think that there are a lot of people on this site that do that. they should be concentrating on living and not reading a book or on their knees praying to an entioty whose existence is doubtful at best

You forgot: Go and tell others they're wrong, and how they could be right.
