Does it bother you that more and more people are apparently too lazy to type out your or this and instead replace them with ur and dis? For one thing, how much time do you really save? And it can make comprehension very difficult. Also, it makes you look very uneducated, even if you aren't. Thoughts on this?

Also, things like kewl and laterz are no shorter than their grammatically correct counterparts....what's the point?

Yes I was a teenager....just a couple of months ago actually! What worries me is that there is an entire generation that thinks that poor spelling and horrible grammer is "cool."

By the way, in New Zealand they have just allowed this type of spelling on school exams. Now kids don't even need to KNOW the correct spelling, nevermind having to use it.

Thanks for all your answers!

I hate it! To me it seems to come from teenagers who are trying to be cool but end up looking like idiots instead. Maybe it saves a few cents when text messaging, but even then how long would someone have to mangle the language just to save a dollar?

If computers came with shorthand keyboards, then it would make sense. My mother could write shorthand as fast as anyone could talk, which always amazed me. Besides, shorthand really does look cool, sort of like Arabic.

I don't know what the msn-speak is, but i do agree with you about this whole slang/short hand thing that is going on today. I do use some of it when i am text messaging, but when i am on the computer i always type everything out. I think it is just a kid thing.
I don't remember where i herd this, but i was told that schools are having a problem with kids and spelling because they are learning to spell that way before they learn the right way...

Yes, it bugs the crap outta me. If I am chatting with someone that types like that, my responses get short and less thoughful, and it really does make people look, well, stupid. I even avoid using any of those abbreviations like lol, wtf(flip), omg(gosh), etc. just because typing those saves me what, 1 second? Another type of typing that bugs me is tYpInG lIkE tHiS, I can't even do it very well. Anyway, thats my two cents.

Yeah, it gets annoying sometimes. I rarely use "msn-speak", even when I'm on msn. It bothers me so much when I don't understand, or when I see serious mistakes that people cover with that "language".

It's a teenage fashion. Were you never a teenager? It doesn't bother me at all. Yahoo answers is a leisure activity, not school.
