Should either mate be limited to the point where they can't speak to their friend or hang out? What limits should not be crossed?

Yes marriages should have ground rules. They help establish a working system of expectations. Mine has four plus two rules of thumb. They are:

Rules: These are deal breakers.
1. NO HITTING. (this includes all forms of abuse)
2. NO LYING. (small white lies are acceptable. example: "No, I don't know what your best friend is getting you for your birthday." When in fact you helped his best friend pick it out.)
3. NO CHEATING. (Physical and/or emotional. Discuss what both forms entail, do not assume that he will know what you consider cheating)
4. NO STEALING.

Rules of Thumb. (for behavior)
1. Would you do what you are doing if your BF/GF/Spouse was standing right behind you and looking over your shoulder? No? Stop doing it, it is wrong. Yes? Continue on and have a good time.
2. Pick your fights. Is this issue truly worth fighting over? No? Stop arguing, let it go. Yes? Stick to your guns until they agree or a compromise can be reached.

I think rules that the two persons set up for their marriage would be great thing, but keep in mind that sometimes we (as humans) stick to our opinions and don't accept other people's opinions, in this case there should be a rules set by third party that governs marriage and the relationships between wife, husband, and children .. and sometimes between the whole family and their relatives.

This third party my be the religion, country laws, or the customs known in society.

Hope this would be helpful!

Rules?!? If you need rules, especially ones that include no time with friends, then that means you lack basic trust in each other. If you lack trust, then that relationship isn't going to work out for very long...you want want to reconsider the marriage if that is the case.

marriage is all about love, which is important.the rules u make shouldn't posses the quality of a rule.as long as u love each other just point out the thing u don't want to see on each other.there should be no rules.make a love agreement for the benefit of both of u.rules in marrage sound like there isn't love between u.

The best rules are ones you come up with together and both agree that will work best for both of you!
