Culture-laid back, easy going.......lazy
Food-give us a BBQ and we're fine......actually our food is very multi-cultured as we are a multi cultural society, you can find anythign from lebanese to american style food....of course, you ahev probably heard that an Aussie's all time favourite is snags on a barbie
Life-we like to live it and often don't make work our life, quite the opposite, when the clock stirkes 5 we're out of the office and into more comfy clothes to go to the beach or just relax
People-most are happy and sociable, in the cities this may differ
Weather-unfortunately, at the moment we are in the midst of a massive drought and do not receive much rain. This may be good for you though as you are travelling. The weather here has been a bit weird lately, we are having below average temperatures but some extremely hot days as well.

Enjoy your travels!

Hi and I hope you have a wonderful stay with us, the type of culture you will experience will many depend on where you are located, generally Australians are laid back sort of people. You can expereince food from all over the world. Life in summis is beaches, picnics the weather will be hot in the eatsern states NSW and Qld you are looking at humid heat the higher you go in Queensland the more tropical. IN Western Australia it is more of a dry heat but does get humid again the higher you go in the state, not sure about the otehr states can alnly speak form where I have visited. Australia is an awesome place to live and if you can see some touristy things and some of the country Im sure you'll have a ball :-)

Word of advice, don't talk about religion unless the ones you are with do. People will think you are quite strange. It is not the done thing here to do the "God bless" "blessings" and all that - so tone it down until you suss out the people you are around.

Depending on how old you are, you can legally drink and go to nightclubs here at 18 - so another thing for you to be careful of if you are not used to it. If you have an American driver's licence and are under 18, you may not be able to drive here, and we drive on the other side of the road.

Are you talking our summer or your summer? I assume you are talking your summer, as our holidays are now until the end of January (our summer). If you are coming in our winter, it can be cold, depending on there you are going to be staying. Victoria and South Australia, and parts of New South Wales can be very cold in winter (but not like Michigan etc).

basically Australia is in general a friendly country, as long as you act normal and friendly people will be friendly to you. People in Australia love their bbq and if possible they play footy or cricket all the time, so try to learn somethingb about theese sports! As i said they like barbecues so grilled is always a favourite. The weather in Australia is completely differend depending on where you are for example in Melbourne the weather change in a matter of minutes from sunny into cold and cloudy, in wester Australia it is really hot all the time. The people in Australia generally live a relaxed lifestyle and are friendly.

as you said, obviously not me.
I lived in Sydney for five years, they were glorious years. all of your categories are determined by the part of Australia you will be in. the same as the US, if that is where you are. Australia is approximately the same size, however less populated. From my experience in Sydney and the western part of new south wales, you are in for a treat. people were quite friendly in general, more outgoing than most cities I have lived in the US.
