Great question. When I first started playing I had so many about the game in general that I didn't even know where to start. This is the website that I used when I had tons and tons of questions. It is still the website that I go back to when I have questions.

http://www.usga.org/playing/rules/books/index.html

Hope it answers all of your questions. Good luck. Happy Holidays.

Rules are only relevant if you want to play in a competition against others so that you can compare scores in the end. If you play amongst friends for fun, you can make up any rules you want to. Really!

Each course will enforce etiquette stating how you should share the course with others. Etiquettes do not infuence the score however will influence the enjoyment of your round of golf. E.g. it is etiquette not to drive a golf cart onto the green as it will damage the green but driving a cart onto the green does not impact your score.

If you are new to golf learn the basic scoring rules and try to understand the common etiquette. The rest will come as you play more and more. If you play tournaments, carry a rule book (which are typically sold in most golf stores).

As for the rules:

Apart from standard rules, each golf club has its own set of rules. For general rules and details on the game you can check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golf

Rules

#! do no hit anyone with the ball or club

#2 yell FOUR if your ball goes off line

#3 be careful not to disturb wildlife in some holes when you take a sex break looking for your lost balls. There are young deers in there and you do not want to scare them.

quit simple really. you need to get the ball in the hole with the least amout of hits possable . if its a par 5 you need to do it less then that. the less the # at the end of the game the better.
