My TV has one digital audio input (RCA). I want to be able to hook up my PC (one digital audio output (RCA)) and my Xbox360 (one digital audio output (TOSLINK)) without using a switchbox.

Is there a cable or adapter that can do this?

I tried using an RCA to dual RCA splitter/combiner, but it didn't work. When I had both the PC and Xbox360 on, there is no audio. But if I turn one or the other off, then I can get audio correctly. So I'm guessing that with just a passive splitter/combiner, the digital signals interfere with each other and cause no audio.

Actually, when you had both systems on, you had two digital outputs connected together and that will damage them.

You need a switchbox, unless you like to take your systems in to get them repaired on a regular basis.

No cable / passive adapter can help you with this one -- sorry!

a miles less costly change from Monoprice will do the trick. interior the previous I even have used a splitter, merely i've got used it "backwards". This meant I plugged the two supplies (PS3, cable field, on your case) into the outputs and then plugged the enter into my receiver. This works great - yet - you're able to desire to make confident merely one device is on at a time. in case you finally end up with the two contraptions sending a sign down the cord, they're going to get mixed mutually by employing the splitter, ensuing interior the receiver no longer understanding what to do with it. issues like sport consoles or DVD gamers do no longer deliver out something on their optical audio ports while they are off. even with the undeniable fact that, the cable field could. I also have a DVR from Dish, and it continually sends out a sign over the optical audio cable whether I turn it "off" with the distant. for this reason, my splitter trick would not artwork. The DVR keeps to be by employing itself devoted optical audio port, mutually as my PS3 and 360 share the different port on my receiver.
