I know this is a short notice since Christmas is so close. But my mother is at this time raising 2 Granchildren, a 17 yr. old and a 9 yr. old both girls. They are my sisters kids but she has nothing to do for them. My Mom gets social security disability which barely pays for the bills and a roof over there head. She put her life on hold for 4 grandchildren and now has 2 left. She is stressing because she doesn't know how she can afford to do anything or get some gifts to put under the tree for them to wake up to Christmas morning. I try to do all I can for them but I'm also a single mother and one income. I try to give her money some times to take the load off of her with bills and stuff like that but I can only do so much. If anyone out there knows how or what she needs to do to have a Christmas and gifts under her tree please let me know. My mom isn't one to ask for help but sometimes we have to bury our pride. I live in Sulphur Springs Tx. and she lives in Cooper Tx. Plz. Help

Perhaps you can locate the toys for tots in her area, in her name.
It could be your xmas present to your mom. The 17 yr old is old enough to have a part time job, especially at this time of year.

Could you list some gift ideas? ANd I would strongly suggest 1: the local paper 2: toys for tots 3: the salvation army. A friend of mine, also never asked for help. Had a masters degree in english literature. Found herself down and out with two small boys. All she wanted were two used bikes for the boys. People did come through for them. There are people that want to give - you just need to connect her to them.

Maybe you could call a local (Cooper) TV station, tell them the story, and ask for their help. If nothing else, they can put you in touch with agencies that are doing Christmas charity work. You might also try the local (or nearest) chamber of commerce.

A 17 year old should be working and helping out with the family, maynot with the bills of course but with things that 17 year old needs.

As sad as it is sometime people can not afford to buy chirstmas presents. It just happens sometimes.

We also need to understand that christmas is NOT about getting things. It is about the BIRTH OF CHRIST.

Contact the local church, ask for a referral from the school. You can even contact the Lions club or Elks.
