Both...A water baptism is where a believer acknowledges Him in front of others. A believer is later baptized by the Holy Spirit when God sends Him to a true believer...that is His response/acknowledgment of a true and faithful heart.

Do we need to be water baptized? No...it is the baptism by the Holy Spirit that causes a person to be saved and reborn. That is a gift from God...so He does it for us.

Baptism is a symbolic act that is public - as part of the profession of your faith - and the immersion symbolizes being wholly "buried" in the water and coming out a new creature - emulating the cleansing that comes with Salvation.

Naturally, as with anything in the "mortal world of Christianity", there is dispute.

Check out the citation, it's pretty accurate.

An answer to your direct question is that it's an exchange - we can only participate in distinct "public" traditions, sacrements, whatever; but most importantly, your relationship has to develop and be spiritual. You will have already given your heart and life to Christ when you decide to undergo the ritual of Baptism - and in turn, He will give you grace.

Baptism is a covenant, and circumcision is its OT parallel. It is entirely God's act in which we are participants only. Baptism is a "marking out" of God's property, and this means infants as part of that family, separate from the world. It does not guarantee salvation, but is rather a sacrament instituted by Christ that we fulfill as His commandment.

Dear Nik-Nak,

Baptism is something we do to identify with what God has done for us. When we get baptized we are saying that we identify ourselves with the death of Christ (Christ who was sacrificed for our sins) that we die to sin (when we go under the water) and that we live for God now (which is what Christ was the perfect example for us of).

The Scriptures do not teach that Baptism is required for salvation and we know this because the theif on the cross was not baptized and Jesus said surely you will be with me in paradise. But Baptism is a matter of obedience. If we love Christ- why wouldn't we want to identify ourselves with Him and to make a commit to live for Him. This is why Baptism is a public act- so that the church (our brothers and sisters) will hold us accountable and encourage and pray for us to grow in Christ-likeness.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

Faithful water baptism is ordinarily REQUIRED for initiation into the church, for forgiveness of sins, and for personal inclusion into God's Kingdom.

God doesn't need us. We need him ... and his grace.

Baptism is how we begin.

Spirituality is not something I would aproach on yahoo.

Use a search engine and input Faith all. And read a lot, then make a choice. Or not.

The larger the question, the more intellectually prepared we need to be.

When science interacts, be fair.

We do this for God. It is the acceptance of His challenge for us to live, study and follow Him. His Son's example and the Bible- God' s inspired words. If we can accomplish all of that to God's satisfaction, He will then resurrect us 1000 years before the End of Days and we will live with Him forever in happiness.
Does that answer it to your satisfaction ? If not, email me.

There is nothing a man can do for God.
We obey God and declare that He is our God and Lord when we baptisted in water.
Baptisim in the Holy Spirit is something that God do for us.

I like your question...... It is on both parts, I'd say..... We submit ourselves unto Him so that He can work within us to change us into something more profound.....

Being individual in the world... having one mind, is not as great as a body of like minded individuals who fulfill a common goal.... Something that is filled with wisdom and moves the soul to a greater understanding of how to live life to the fullest......

That is why we are given gifts..... not all have the same "talent".... but it works within us for the whole of the body....

Therefore, it is on both parts.......

Good question, it's something you do for yourself. god is imaginary, so it can't be done for him. And, because he doesn't exist, he can't do it for you. Never could figure out what the point was to a baptism anyway...
