I have this Espresso machine ( http://www.capresso.com/prod_esp_ultima.html ) and it is absolutely fantastic. I have one or two espressos from it each day and it is one of the most convenient machines that I have ever used. Just follow the directions that come with the machine, and freshly grind your coffee in a burr grinder. I got mine at a local coffee shop, Polly's Gourmet Coffee in Long Beach, CA http://www.pollys.com/ , They have great coffee, great service and ship freshly roasted coffee out by UPS, my favorite Espresso roast is their Dark Roast Java.

the one at Starbucks sucks, a good one costs a LOT.
I wish I had the money for one. but G is right about the french press, or an Italian espresso maker.

but there are benefits of an actual good espresso maker the froth-er and temp control and its the only way to get the syrupy part of the coffee out the french press just cant get hot enough

but if you look at this way , buying an expensive espresso maker
is still alot cheaper than drinking it from coffee shops everyday.
it would have its self paid for in no time.

Rancilio Silvia is really good for the price says conumer reports
it's acually considerd cheap at about $500

I personally like the good old fashion stove top espresso makers. Don't buy the ones from wal-mart.

save yourself a couple thousand and get either a stove top moka pot -- stainless is better than aluminum -- or a french press. any coffee snob will tell you the french press is going to give you the best coffee -- ask any barista at starbucks what they have at home -- it will either be a french press or a french press and a moka pot. unless you want to drop a couple thousand on a machine just go old school.
