Any advice or words of wisdom?
I've heard that the recovery time is much longer & the pain much more intense the later in life you have this surgery. Have you had any personal experience with this before?
Also, I've heard that many adults have had problems with their blood pressure skyrocketing after having this particular surgery (ay home during recovery) and that they've had to be rushed to the hospital because of it.

Just know you will be in pain! I had them out about 2 year ago at 28 and that is the worst pain I have ever had... ever! I've even had a breast augmentation and that did not compare at all to the tonsillectomy!

For pain you will have liquid pain medication thank god! What I did to have liquids is I put ice in a blender and blended it like a slushy and spooned it in. This helped numb my throat but kept me hydrated. I tried to sleep alot to get me not to think about the pain! You will lose weight because you can't eat, try unsalted mashed potatoes, maybe mac n cheese. Salty things burn, tomato based things burn, lots of popsicles, ice cream.

Your doctor will let you know what is normal and what is not. You will develop scabs in the back of your throat. I noticed this but never noticed when they were gone.

Take your pain meds as prescribed. Oh what also helped were ice packs, I placed them on each side of my throat, (outside of course) because the pain radiates out to your ears! Through all this I don't regret it, one of the best things I did.

Goodluck and i'll be thinking of you. You'll do well.

About the blood pressure, I figure it may go up because of the pain. People who have borderline blood pressure can experience a jump in their pressure under pain. So this may be why.

I had my tonsils removed at 31, and it was painful, but only becuase mine were infected when they took them out. Just remember to take some time off of work...for me it was 2 weeks. I couldn't talk at all. My insides were swollen. You will have to take pain pills, and they will expect you to swollow them, try to stock up on the following items before you go under the knife. Jello, popsicles, apple sauce, Ice cream, etc...food you dont have to swollow. Also please don't forget to buy a pill masher. It will help, you wont be able to take a whole pill (it will taste so nasty, though).

The first couple of days were a blur, I was heavily medicated, and I slept alot, then I started feeling better, but couldn't talk. I didn't have any serious health problems, but everyone is differnt. They wil want to check up on you, so plan on that (have someone take you). You should be better in one to two weeks. But remember my tonsils were swollen, and crystalized...so this advice is worst case.

Good Luck.

P.S. You will be sorrounded by children, before surgery, and at the post surgery check up. And they do heal a whole lot better than us. I had surgery after a 5 year old, and she went in for a check up one week later as did I, and she was fully active, but I couldnt even speak. I started thinking I was a drama queen, until the doctor spoke to me. Email me if you have any more questions.

You will be out when they are doint the surgery.

Not personal experience, but working in a hospital and hearing doctors say that it is more painful the older you get is what I am basing my answer on. Yes, but don't worry because they will give you enough pain medication to alleviate your pain. Your doctor will watch and monitor your blood pressure. If you begin to feel short of breath, light-headed, and hear your heartbeat in your ears, call your doctor, and go with the doctor's recommendations. The people who have problems with high blood pressure probably already had a little bit of that to begin with.

I wish you a speedy recovery with no complications.

Oh dear, I am sorry to hear this for you.
Yes, recovery time is longer (but we're talking a few days not like months or something) and the pain is really intense but if multiple doctors insist you have this procedure then ultimately it will be worth it to be rid of chronic tonsillitus.
One of my ex-boyfriends had his out at 22 (I know, not 35) and it was very difficult for him to eat anything, talk, swallow, etc for about 4 or 5 days. If I recall correctly they didn't give him any pain killers either.
I do not think they mentioned anything to him about the blood pressure, but that could be because of his age.
Whatever you do, follow your doctor's instructions and don't try to push yourself too soon or you may irritate the wound.
And pleade for painkillers.

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

Just make sure that you have a Doctor that is great with the older generation. Get a second opinion whatever you do. Touncils out at your age, not good at all.
