Dear Nik-Nak,
The Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is mentioned in Matthew 12. In the specific context Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit was attributing something that the Holy Spirit had done and giving credit to Satan. It is an important passage- because the Scriptures teach us it is the only sin that can not be forgiven.
There are many who believe that the Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit can not be committed today. i think the equivalent would be denying the Holy Spirit --- the Holy Spirit comforts us, but also shows us who Jesus is (no one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit) so i believe the only sin we can commit today that can not be forgiven is denying that Jesus is Lord... (and i mean that in the ultimate sense) it does not mean that someone who doesn't believe in Jesus today can not believe in him tomorrow.
i would suggest studying up a little bit on this topic. You can read various commenatries on the passage or possibly get a systematic theology.
i just want to say God Bless You- You've asked some great questions and i can tell that you are growing as a student of God's word.
Be Blessed. Kindly,
Nickster

There are so may websites out there, I can understand your question. I'm not a theologian, but I have ascertained - to a reasonably understandable degree - what this concept is.
The following is a reference (which is hyperlinked below), so I don't appear to come from left field. I selected it because it is most in line with what I have internalized from my Pastor(s) throughout my life.
"Blasphemy of the spirit has nothing to do with being saved and losing your salvation, those who blasphemed were unbelievers not believers. No believer would ever say Jesus did his miracles by a demonic spirit. Mt .12:24 Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.” The context of this contention is “For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matt 12:37). What they confessed about Jesus and the power He did His work by will determine what side one is on (are they for or against him)."
The most intuitive way to understand this concept is to first recall that blasphemy is a lack of "due" reverence, attribution (acknowledgement) of deity; it ONLY refers to something sacred.
The Holy Spirit, in our current lives, is the comforter and manifestation of the supernatural (such as happenings that you know, by faith, only occured because the Holy Spirit was present in your life) now that Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
To give the credit for something that only the Trinity (in the personhood of the Holy Spirit) has done - in your life or another's - to any other source, is to deny the Holy Spirit's power, and therefore it's diety. Remember, there is a God of this world, and if the Holy Spirit is not acknowledged - or is deliberately dismissed - as the power after He has manifested something - blasphemes Him.
Since Christ was a person, it's easier to understand his miracles being attributed to Beelzebub as a deliberate slap in His almighty face.
But now, since His death, we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but with principalities and powers, so the role of the Spirit now supersedes and intercedes.
To be safe, acknowledge the Holy Spirit when you've said you have faith; and do not judge the walk of others, lest you take His credit away in an area you don't understand.

The Holy Spirit will convict people of the truth. The more you deny it after seeing it is true, the less and less you will be able to hear its voice. If you do it too often, you will cease to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit altogether.
Many of the Jewish priests in Jesus' day, saw him raise Lazurus from the dead, they knew he was the Son of God. Yet they resisted, the convictions that they had, and even discussed killing Lazurus !!
Paul says not to quench the Spirit. Walk now in the light, lest darkness come over you. God bless.

If any one says he is God, its Blasphemy against God.
If any one claims. he is the Holy Spirit (Spirit of Truth / Comforter/ Advocate etc mentioned in the holy Bible), this is the Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be pardoned.

For those who read and understand the Bible, the Holy Ghost is simply God's power. Period. To blaspheme means to deny, berate or dismiss. So, denying God's power is probably the closest meaning. This is the one true unforgiveable sin, to deny God and His power.

It is when a person is compelled by the spirit to witness to one in need... but one denies the spirit is present... one denies the spirit the opportunity to be used by them..... Such a one is blaspheming that the spirit is real.....
it is a very difficult thing and is the point where man abandons the spirit out of sheer will.......
And as difficult as it is, there will be some who have the power to resist...... and that is called blashemy.....

Ginger

When the truth about a spiritual thing has been revealed to you by holy spirit and then you intentionally lie to someone else about it, thereby attempting to spiritually murder them.
