when (with the parable of the speck and the plank) Jesus teaches that the only righteousness that anyone should be focused on is their own?

I am not saying that the preacher is judging, but most of the sermons I have heard concern how other people than the one giving the sermon can or should be more righteous. Given the context of the parable of the speck and the plank, it seems to me that the very idea that you can determine whether or not someone else is being righteous or needs to be more righteous becomes your 'plank', But maybe I'm just a retard.

I think I see your point!

Preaching is a term, often considered to mean "speaking down to".

Nobody should "talk down to another"....for none of us knows who has the plank or who has the speck in their own eye.

Great Question!

God called man to preach and God gave the gift. What man does with the gift is a different story. But remember that they are just men.Human.Can you live up to a stander set by God and Man and never fall? Moses was a murderer, David was a man after Gods own heart, yet sinned a lot.
But your question implies that only non-Christians should preach.

If you mean the word Preacher to mean a Christian called by God to Preach as a full time occupation then the answer is no. God must call you.
God also said that we as Christians are to preach the Gospel which means to tell others about Him.

The only way a person should be preaching is preaching the Bible not focusing on proclaiming their own righteousness.

I can’t give the correct answer to your question since there is no correct answer actually; yet the question itself brought me in mind the following story about the businessman who sent a fax to his wife:

"My Dear Wife, You will surely understand that I have certain needs that you with your 54 years can no longer provide. I am very happy with you and I value you as a good wife. Therefore after reading this fax, I hope that you will not wrongly interpret the fact that I will be spending the evening with my 18-year-old secretary at the Comfort Inn Hotel. Please don't be perturbed. I shall be back home before midnight."

When the man came home, he found the following letter on the dining room table:

"My Dear Husband, I received your fax and thank you for your honesty. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that you are also 54 years old. At the same time I would like to inform you that while you read this, I will be at the Hotel Fiesta with Michael the son of our gardener, who, like your secretary, is also 18 years old. As a successful businessman and with your excellent knowledge of arithmetic, you will understand that we are in the same situation, although with one small difference. 18 goes into 54 a lot more times than 54 goes into 18. Therefore I will not be back before lunchtime tomorrow."

The question is how can you be so ignorant as to interpret the Bible in that fashion? Jesus also taught his disciples to carry on his work and preaching and they were Christians.

He also gave us the GREAT COMMISSION of preaching the word to every living creature. And that no one is righteous, no not one, so we preach out of love for the lost, and not harp on there sin, but preach Christ crucified and RESURRECTED! and THAT LOVE SHOWN TO THE LOST COVERS a multitude of sins!

"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing from the Word of God."
"How will people learn of the good news if we do not tell them?"

You have taken one verse and attempted to wrap your entire belief around it.
As pastors we do not pass judgment on people, but we enlighten people as to what the scriptures say, and why.
