Matthew 5:38-42
38 "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' 39 But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

True Christians in the first century refused to participate in warfare as do true Christians today.

Dear Raxivar,

i believe you are taking Jesus' teaching out of context. Here Jesus is addressing the idea of showing mercy over taking revenge and reminding us that we don't always get what we deserve.

The Bible does teach us first of all that we should follow authority (Romans 13) that God has given us governments, to be instruments of righteousness.

People who are police officers and soldiers kill not for their own pleasure but to carry out justice. Christians who are in the army should do their duty- but also must realize that their commander in chief first is Jesus Christ.

If a Christian were to be a soldier (ie: at the time of Hitler) and was asked to do an unrighteous thing-- he ought not to do it.

The Bible does not teach evil is not to be resisted- it teaches that we should not repay evil for evil.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

Jesus taught to resist evil. What about the 40 days of temptation?
Satan offered him the world? Of course, who in their right mind would want the world the way it is here?

In church I was taught to sing:

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
Forward into battle see His banners go!

Refrain

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.

At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
Brothers lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.

Refrain

Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
We are not divided, all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

Refrain

What the saints established that I hold for true.
What the saints believèd, that I believe too.
Long as earth endureth, men the faith will hold,
Kingdoms, nations, empires, in destruction rolled.

Refrain

Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,
But the church of Jesus constant will remain.
Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.

Refrain

Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.
Glory, laud and honor unto Christ the King,
This through countless ages men and angels sing.

Refrain

Consientious Objector. Meaning, I'll join the military, but will not bear arms, nor be copelled to kill.

The only two defining forces that have ever offered to die for you was Jesus Christ and the American soldier.
One died for you soul and the other for your freedom.

Never forget God and Country!

WE ARE TO RESIST THE ENEMY WHICH IS THE DEVIL. JESUS TEACHES US TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS WE LOVE OURSELVES TO LEAD THEM TO JESUS CHRIST. BUT, WE ARE TO RESIST THE ENEMY THAT MAKES SOME PEOPLE DO UNKIND ACTIONS AND UNKIND WORDS.
