Colon or large intestine.
The colon begins at the point where the small intestine empties into it - the ileocecal valve, in the cecum, (the first part of the colon). The cecum is in the lower right quadrant. It becomes the ascending colon, then the transverse colon goes across the top of the belly, from right to left. The left side of the colon is known as the descending colon, then sigmoid, rectum, and anus.
