My wife just found out she is pregnant. It is very early and thus too soon to start telling people. She is not sure how to handle the fact she is not drinking when at social functions, which is significant as the holiday season is upon us. Does anyone have some good excuses she can use to explain why she isn't drinking to mask the fact that she is pregnant? She tends to be a party girl so people are likely to notice.

"I'm the designated driver tonight."

"I took some cold medicine earlier that doesn't mix with alcohol."

"I'm dieting."

"I'm saving my calories for dessert."

She's not feeling well.

She's on antibiotics.

She's trying to lose weight.

She's the designated driver.

She's trying to just cut back on drinking.

She can use many excuses. I'd probably use the same one every time that way it doesn't get all mixed up. When you go--don't drink either. There's nothing worse then being pregnant and seeing everyone having so much fun but you cannot drink. Better yet--you could stay away from those parties. Either way, good for you to show concern for your wife. Best of Luck and Congratulations!

These are all good excuses, and any of them would probably work, but you should consider not drinking as well and then you can also give a supportive "excuse" like..."we feel like we always stumble out of the holiday season, after all that food, booze, and wine. This year we're going easy."
This might bring you guys closer in the long run. My partner's total sobriety during my pregnancy has made me feel so supported and also proved his commitment to a healthy family. I love it.

She could tell people that she has made a New Years Resolution to stop drinking and that she decided to start on the resolution early instead of waiting until 2007.

Announce you want to drink, and she is the designated driver. Say you just heard a terrible story of someone being killed by a drunk driver and would like to be more cautious.
You could also say she is on medications for a medical condition and cannot drink because it would have negative effects. IE: had a cavity filled and is on vicodin. Or hurt her back, etc.

I handed on the coffee and caffeine for the 1st trimester because of the minor institutions some study have discovered between caffeine and a small improve in miscarriage threat. It in simple terms wasn't well worth it to me--incredibly, i do no longer think of that coffee provides me adequate of a jolt to incredibly make a difference, besides. whilst i replaced into drained i attempted eating something crammed with carbs and protein to grant me the skill i mandatory. by using the 2d trimester, I in simple terms ignored the flavor of coffee. I do drink it on social gathering, often a cup or 2 some situations each week. i attempt to drink decaf whilst available, in any different case "water down" widely used coffee with greater cream/milk. particular, lots of girls folk will drink a pot of coffee an afternoon and have completely healthful little ones. that does no longer mean it incredibly is thoroughly secure, nevertheless. It in simple terms will improve the prospect. in case you're purely eating a cup or 2 an afternoon, your threat isn't increasing. in case you would be unable to function at artwork, attempt a cup of coffee in case you will like. in any different case, attempt something else...even a brisk walk to the different end of the construction, out on your automobile, etc. can wake you up. regrettably tiredness is a undemanding war in being pregnant, and you would be able to't believe in caffeine to tug you up out of it.

Congrats! And I think the antibiotic excuse is the best excuse. It's the sick season after all so it won't be hard to be believed. ^.~ Have fun with the pregnancy and enjoy being parents. I have two girls and love every minute!

all of these answers are absolutly wonderful, but i think that it would be ok if you wife had just one glass of wine {even at each function{it's not like she doing tequila shooters} and after that one drink she jayes that she's not feeling well and will just drink some water or something for the rest of the night...
