My husband and I have been having the same problem with our two cats and our tree. The suggestion about spraying your cat with the water bottle is a good one. Whenever it even heads in the direction of the tree, spray it. You should also buy "bitter apple" spray (they have it at pretty much any pet store) and put that on the tree and on the floor near the tree. They hate the smell and the taste of the spray, so that should keep them away. Also, we've been unplugging our tree when we're gone, because the lights seem to attract them the most. It also seems like they think under the tree is a good hiding place, but hopefully when there are more presents under it (which there aren't right now), they won't see under the tree as a great spot to hide out and spy on each other!

A small spray bottle, the kind you use to wet hair down etc., filled with water. put the nozzle on the setting for steady stream and just squirt the little darling when he goes near it, then reprimand him. Also, kitty's don't like citrus scent so maybe some orange oil or lemon oil sprinkled on some potpourri near the tree.

Nothing worked on my most stubborn cat. Removing breakable ornaments was helpful. The natural consequence of a falling tree, without someone to stop it, worked the 2nd time around. (Probably because we stood back, watching, saying "you stupid cat!", doing nothing to save her. No she wasn't trapped under the tree.)

I sprayed my tree with vinegar . . . it smells at first but then it fades to human noses and still keeps the cats away.

Honestly if nothing has worked so far, like at my home really all you can do is smile remember why you love them and buy a fiber-optic tree for next year.
