Isn't one of the core insights of the Gospel of Thomas that the kingdom of God is within you? Under this perspective, a person's relationship to the divine doesn't become a matter of religious belief but one of direct insight and knowing. So whether I believe it or not becomes somewhat immaterial. What is important is whether it leads to my spiritual unfolding and communion with the divine.

The Gospel of Thomas is a false gospel that is a poor and rather obvious "cut and paste" job.

Anyone who's familiar with true scripture can tell at a glance that the GofT has a couple of verses of a true gospel, then adds sme wierd gnostic stuff for a couple of verses, and then has some more text from a true gospel, and so on.

The GofT was never accepted by the church, is not of apostolic origin, and was written way too late to be considered in any way authentic.

Much of it is also patently false, and contradicts the true gospels.

I believe there is a gospel of Thomas, however I am skeptic on how much truth there is in it. One thing that is in the back of my mind is it is dated later than the other gospels. Remembering that most things that werent written down were passed on by word of mouth there is room for meaning to be lost or twisted. Just like the game of chineese whispers. One thing I would love to be able to do is read ancient languages and have full access rights to the vaults in the vatican city Rome.

The Gospels in the Bible are all within the time frame of eyewitness accounts. The Thomas thing is way outside of that possibility. It was written much later. More than likely made up.

no because i can't believe in something that i never read. did you know that the gospel of Barnabas was actually in the canon and considered authentic until later times when a small group tried to destroy it.

i want to read all the other gospels.

Jude 1 verse 17 says this.
17But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires." 19These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

so i want to find out what gospel said this in it? it says that the Lord Jesus fortold. so if Jesus said it then which gospel is it in. the gospel that it is in i will likely believe in.

Thomas the doubter? I know there is a Gospel of Thomas. but it is hard to find by its self. One of my bible versions has it listed as being under John. Other than that i know no more.May have a copy somewhere in my library as it rings a bell.

Why not. I had always had the understanding he was the disciple Jesus
loved. Now they say it was John.
But a woman Bible scholar, (women see these things better), noticed John was jealous of Thomas. He keeps talking about him like he's a dumb@ss!
HMMMMMM!

I believe it is a useful historical document describing religious attitudes and beliefs of the people who wrote it.

No because its contents are contradictory to the rest of scripture which is why it and books like, the book of wisdom etc were not accepted as canon.
