One of the current telephone scams involves people calling you up and saying they are from the local courts of law. They will say that there is a bench warrant out for you, or that you have failed to appear, but that you can pay the fine over the phone. Then they ask for your social security number, a credit card number and the other information onthe card used for things like internet or telemarketing sales. Has this one started in your area yet? Pass the information along to family and friends so they don't get scammed.

Yes, this scam has been reported in Wisconsin and Iowa. The scam is that you have failed to report for jury duty and a warrant has been issued, blah, blah, blah. The easiest way to handle such a call (which would never happen in the first place...it would come as a letter in the mail) is to hang up and contact your county's clerk of courts office. Explain the call you just received. Chances are they have never heard of you. No city or county agency will ever call you asking for SSN or credit card info over the phone. And then call your local law enforcement agency to report it, of course.

No. I haven't heard of this one. Wouldn't fall for it anyway. You have to be physically served papers by a police officer for warrants, failure to appear, or when there is a lawsuit being brought against you. I never give my SSN, or credit card info over the telephone. It would be wise to contact your state's attorney general to report this scam.

No credible Police department would ever do such a thing. ANYONE who calls you and tells you something like this, get the name of the person and the Police Department. Tell them you will call them right back. Then check the directory for that Police Department and call them....don't call the same number that the suspect gave you or they will answer and go on with the ploy. Actually, I would tell them to kiss my a** and come and get me!!!
