What makes people think that when they see a Police Officer on a traffic stop, that now would be the best time to ask that officer a question??? I have been approached numerous times with questions for directions or legal advice while I am doing a traffic stop. I was just wondering if people stop to consider the danger they put themselves in, not to mention the danger to the Officer???

My favorite is when they park behind your car on a freeway stop at night. This blocks out my emergency lights and makes me wonder what the heck their doing as they come up behind me.

Okay, some advice to all non police types. DO NOT APPROACH AN OFFICER ON A STOP. If it's an absolute emergency, park in front of the vehicle the officer has stopped, stay in your car, keep your hands in plain view, and wait for the officer to contact you. If you don't follow my advice, you may not like the reception you receive when you startle the officer.

You know you're an honest, hard working guy who just needs to ask a question, but we don't have any idea who you are or what you're trying to do when you stop.

People, if you have to ask a question of a cop. call the local PD and ask to be contacted by phone. Don't approach a cop who is on a call.

Better yet, just check out the local IHOP parking lot for parked cruisers

apparantly they dont stop to consider the danger they could be putting themselves in! in my home town several years ago, lived a man who would follow the ambulance and/or a cop going to a call...he ended up being shot & killed by a crazed man!

They are probably on a good high, or they are just very ignorant people who cant measure the circumstance at hand.

Amen brother!! I always wondered the same thing....but then I wondered why they come up to me when I'm eating my dinner to tell me their sad story about a ticket too! Remember, you can't fix stupid...you can kill it or in prison it, but you can't fix it!!!

I would tell them to catch you some time when you haven't got anything better to do. And you are not on duty to answer questions.
