He is a 6year old dalmation, he keeps licking the sofa when he lays on it. He never used to till about week ago. This normal?

Totally normal. When a dog is sleepy, a lot of the time they will lick the area around them. Not only will this help them to fall asleep, but its almost as if they are "cleaning" their "bed". Hope that I helped!

Maybe something spilled on the sofa and was never fully taken up. This is probably attracting your pups smell and now he likes to lick that spot where the residue was left. Just a thought. I would not worry about it, dogs are far more sensitive than we are.

Maybe he thinks your sofa is dirty and it needs a wash. Dogs sometimes lick to make them feel better. It has a chemical effect in their brain. Otherwise I haven't heard of this, my dalmatian only ever licks her own coat or the cat. She is not allowed on the sofa.

If he's licking where his butt was; Try a safe dewormer, call your vet on the phone and ask him about it (Prolly does not require a visit.), and finally spray where he sits with an over the counter spray called "Bitter apple."

That's just...off the top of my head. That will eventually stop him from licking, but it would be good to figure out WHY he is doing that. Worms could be why, so like I said, try a safe OTC wormer.

Maybe that's his favorite spot. Don't you lick your favorite chair? You don't? Oh...maybe I should stop too then.
