I'm going to assume you mean after the break up of a relationship as opposed to, for example, a loved one who has died, because then why would you want to forget. I also struggle from wanting to forget and move on from past relationships and not being able to fully. I remember both the good and bad, and it goes around in circles. However as life goes on, the person you can't forget becomes just one of many memories.

we never forget the people that we have loved. take from a 50 year old there will come a day you will be looking back at the events of the past and all you will remember is the good parts. and hope that person did well for them selfs.

It is very difficult to forget someone you have loved and you never really do, although the memory of that person does fade with time. So you may go from thinking about somebody all the time and feeling sad with missing them, but in time (weeks / months / years - depending on your connection with them and the length of time you knew them) you may only think of them once every so often and without the same feeling of loss. It's natural that life moves on and lucky for us that time heals.

You don't. You just learn to take it one day at a time. Try to keep busy and not dwell on what you don't have. Look at what you do have:)
