Lots of things can wear out or get out of adjustment. You could probably buy a new one for the price it would take to fix it, even if it was repairable.

The shutters in digital cameras have a limited life span. The newer entry level SLR's are rated at 50,000 cycles. I do not know what the technology was like 6 years ago, but maybe your shutter is near the end of its life.

I am sure that the focus motor can be tired or the gears used to focus might be worn enough that they just don't work the way they used to.

There are so many cameras that would be suitable for on-line auctions that are in the under $150 range, you may as well buy one and keep your old workhorse as a paperweight.
