Running is a good start, so is decreasing the amount of beer and soda intake. You also need to cut down on the amount you eat. Be warned. By increasing you physical activity you will become hungrier. Drinking lots of water will help with this.
I must be honest though. There is no such thing as "spot reduction". I don't care what the TV ads tell you. Walking and running will increase your metabolism which is how calories are burned. Just don't overdo the exercise. Remember, moderation is the key, and so is commitment. Stay true to exercising and it will happen. If you feel yourself getting in a rut. Change the routine and do something else. Rollerblading, hiking outdoors on a nice day or walking in the mall. Exercise shouldn't be laborious it should be fun. Make sure what ever exercise you choose is something you enjoy.

Cutting out the pop and the beer will help alot. If your not active at all, even running a mile would probably help get you in shape. However if you actually run 1 mile everyday you could probably eventually work up to more distance.

The next person that says do situps to lose weight or gut will force me to put a gun in my mouth. What is this 1970? There are plenty of good sites that can help you out. I would go there before yahoo answers.

Sits are not going to do it. You need to cut calories or burn more calories. Burning is better because when you are active your metabolism increases. Cutting calories will cause your metabloism to slow down. Get active and dont eat late in the evening.

Running will definatly help!! You probably won't like this, but cutting some of your carbs will help you loose that gut fast. Get on that treadmill right when you get home from work and walk/run in intervals. Then relax and have dinner. You will feel much better that you got your exercise out of the way. I also recommend that you invest in some free weights. Weight lifting in general combined w/ cardio will help you loose weight fast.

Absolutely swear off the beer and sodas. That along with the running will show up on the scales.

Yes running will definitely help. Push ups helped me flatten my stomach and build upper body strength.
It is also important not to eat your last meal within three or four hours of bedtime.
Drink 8 glasses of water everyday, watch your carb intake, and eat lots of veggies. Good luck to you.
