I'm doing a paper on the mystical orientation of hinduism, buddhism, judaism, christianity, and islam. I'm not sure what this means even though i have the definition.

Mystical orientation- seeks union with a reality greater than oneself, such as with god, the process of nature, universe, or reality as a whole. There are often techniuess for lessening the sense of one's idividual identity to help the individual experience a greater unity.

Can someone help me on some examples or a better definition for this?? thanks! best answer gets 10 points!!!!

Hey,

basicly what it says is that you should explain, and maybe oppose, the mystical orientation of these religions. Which means that you should explain how a believer, a follower of these religions would "communicate" with god: what is the relationship between god and the worshiper (is god like a father to him, is he something to fear...).

When they talk about "technique for lessening the sens of one's individual identity to help the individual experience a greater unity" the best example would be in hinduisme, when people seek the unity with nature and the world (to become one with everything as they say in movies and books). Basicly it shows the believer/follower that he should care, considere, respect and love other people. That he should put aside his own greed and needs, and help the other in order to achieve harmony in the world.

Basicly, that's about it. It's a big paper, but i guess this is the place to ask questions about religions. Good luck

I think every religion can lead to oneness with god, even atheists can reach god. Hinduism has way for every one, you need not be loose yourself to be broad minded and eventually become one with god. However it needs sincere hard work. I am not saying that i have all those patience but, i feel that what hinduism says is true.
