The dogpound will NOT fix the dog,,they will kill her.DO NOT TAKE THE DOG THERE!! To see a vet does NOT cost thousands of dollars.Any pet owner should be able to take their dog to the vet for an exam. What kind of dog do you have,,sometimes there are rescue groups that will take & care for her. Check your local phone book &/or place an ad in the paper Or ask around to adopt her out to someone that can help her. Tumors dont burst like that. Did she puncture herself somehow? Or licking alot from being nervous? I would get busy calling vets & places that can help ,,ask vets if they know anyone that rescues dogs.If one doesnt know,,another will.Good luck.Tell your mama that you REALLY love the dog & need to at least try to help her.I really think that this problem may not be as serious or expensive as you think,,she's worth it.Please take her for an exam.

No! Don't give her away just for the hole! You can treat it just fine at home.
Keep it exposed to air, so the oxygen will kill any infection. No bandages, no home stitching. Go to a farm feedstore and describe the problem. They should have disinfectants for cattle that will help the wound heal on its own. You're talking ten to twenty dollars for a bottle of iodine or scarlet oil.
It won't cost thousands of dollars to fix the hole if you do take it to the vet; it sounds like your dog had an old cyst that came to the surface and popped. All it would need is some cleaning out, maybe a few stitches (vets can do stitches cleanly; if you don't do it right, you can trap infection under the wound.)
A surface wound won't kill her. She'll have a scar. If you put an antiseptic on it every day, she'll be absolutely fine.
This is assuming the wound is just into the muscle, at the most. If there's guts poking out of it, you have an emergency that could cost a thousand dollars to fix. If it's deep between the ribs and she's having trouble breathing, another emergency, that might not even be fixable.
Tell your mom to get an opinion from someone who raises farm animals, not some compulsive who thinks dogs need an MRI for every scraped toe.

EDIT: Since it's by her tail, it sounds like one of her anal glands was infected. It's common. Was she dragging her rear end on the ground for weeks before it happened? That's a sign of trouble back there. There's probably something similar going on in the gland on the other side. Your mom can take her in to a dog groomer---see if you can get a quarter rate for just a few minute's consultation---and the groomer can tell her (or you, since she doesn't seem to like the dog much) how to squeeze her butt properly to clean out the gland. That will prevent the same thing from happening to your dog again.

Where is the tumor found? Is it a mammary tumor or a skin tumor? If it is so big and adhering close to the body(not only skin), it can be operated but chance of recurrence is big. Sure it will cost you to bring to vet because the bigger the tumor, the more difficult it is to excise because of its bigger blood supply. If it is ulcerated and bleeds, maybe it is big already and probably it is a malignant tumor which may have metastasized already. Anyway, it is your choice. If your worried about the money, maybe you can just bring her to the pound (this is sad however). She will die if it is a malignant tumor but not right away. What you can do is consult a vet (a kind vet).

In addition to what the person before me posted, if it's a ruptured anal gland, the vet will need to do a procedure to flush it out in order to prevent infection, and she'll need antibiotics and pain meds.

IF it's a ruptured anal gland, it will not cost thousands of dollars. I can't remember the exact amount I paid when my dog's gland ruptured, but I think it was close to the $100 dollar range. Some vets will let you make payments if you can't afford it all at once, so it wouldn't hurt to ask!

Good luck!

It sounds like it may be an abcess that ruptured, which is OK, because it is easy (and inexpensive) to treat. If you take her to the vet, your mom can tell them how much money she is able to spend and they will work with her to fix the problem. Most vets just want to help animals. If it is an abcess, they will probably flush it out and give her antibiotics. A shelter won't help too much in this case-to treat something like this, they will force you to give up ownership and may put her down if she is not adopted soon. But there are many vets who will help you and your dog, and that way you won't have to give her up.

The pound won't help her. It costs too much. They will put her to sleep. It won't cost a lot of money to help her. It wasn't cancer. Cancer doesn't explode. It was probably a cyst. The vet will just give you a cheap antibiotic/steroid cream for her. It will not cost much to help her. If for some crazy reason it will cost a lot of money You can refuse and surrender the dog to them. Don't take the dog to the pound though. They don't help hurt dogs. They don't have the funds to do it. It is cheaper to put the animal to sleep.

I am glad you care about your dog. It will not cost thousands of dollars. You should get the dog to the vet tomorrow; if the treatment will cost too much, you can at least have the dog put to sleep so she will die painlessly instead of leaving her to suffer. If you take her to the pound they will most likely put her to sleep.

That's so awful, I'm sorry. There's no way to know what the vet costs would be without a visit!!! It could be something simple that looks worse than it is!! I really hope your mom changes her mind. You could call your vet and explain the situation, sometimes they can give a bit of advice over the phone. My heart goes out to you, good luck sweetie.

you didn't say where the hole is? is was probably not a tumor but an abcess. You can clean and dress the area where this is. Is there stuff coming out of it does is stink. If it is an abcess it can be easily treated and cured and it won't cost thousands of dollars .

Your poor doggy. Just take her to the vet and they will tell you exactly what it is and don't wait another day for you can cause more pain to the dog if an infection occurs. A doctor's visit is under $60.
