If your couch has those pieces of fabric to protect the arms of your sofa, take one of them with you to the paint store. If not take a cushion, and look at different paint colors. Be sure to take your fabric and the paint samples back home to see what the color looks like in your room light. I would suggest maybe a paler shade of your sofa on the walls and for a richer element do the drapes or curtains floor to ceiling in a silver gray organza.
Another idea would be to paint the walls a very pale shade of purple and then put a stripe, the same color as the couch around the top part of the wall. With out a layout of the room it would be hard to tell where you would want to put the stripe. If you want to go more modern you could even paint diagonal stripes on the wall opposite the sofa.
To finish the room out if you use a silvery gray drape you could accent the room with glass and chrome.
The ideas with paint are endless, just remember cooler colors will make you sofa pop.

A soft, light lavender will keep the purple from jumping in your face.

Or, if you like the dramatic look, a light yellow on the walls will set off the purple sofa nicely as well.

You should use the color Ultimately Beige or Simply Beige(if the ultimate is too dark for you) from Sherwin Williams. Its a beige with a slight green tint that will compliment your purple. Purple curtains would be very nice. I am using the same beige color for my bedroom as I have a purple comforter.

Here is a picture of the wall color with purple. See the second picture on the link:

As others suggest, soft grey is lovely and subtle. Also, creamy white (a hint of yellow) is nice too. Lime green pillows or other accents (even candles on the coffee table) really make the purple pop!

I like to see some ivy when there is purple on walls or furniture. Maybe use white walls with some ivy border or plants. Good luck.

I would do a light metallic silver faux finish over the white on the walls.... barely detectable.

I would go with gold or blonde. I he the same but opposite. Plum walls and blonde fabrics and natural wood bookcase and beams.
