Rice!!!!My second option would be barley.

if you want to play safe any other1 pasta.

I think there's a taste difference between barley and orzo and for a Mediterranean salad the taste is very important. I'd use orzo for this one, and try the barley later on, maybe in a Beef & Barley soup recipe?

Depends on what your making, there is a type of pasta called orzo, and then there is the grain orzo. Most Italian speciality stores sell orzo, depends where you live.

Can you buy any other small pastas? Like ditalini, acini de pepe, pastina? If not, use a strong rice, not quick cooking.
