I have 8 Shih Tzu's. You couldn't ask for a better dog in my opinion. They don't need much room not a good walking companion. They rather be carried than walk. You go for you walk and they will look up at you like ME WALK, well duhhhh. As long as the kids are old enough they are fine, but Shih Tzu's with kids aren't like a Lab with kids. Shih Tzu's are made to sit on your lap and be pamper. That is what they do best. A lot of grooming in these little guys , but you being a groomer would be a factor in their lives. Really.. they are put on this earth to be pamper and that is what they need. Shih Tzu's don't know a stranger they greet everyone as if they known them all their lives. They love people . I can go on about these little guys.

I've had all kind of dogs all my life, currently a lhasa, who's a doll, but our last dog was a shih tzu who was 16 when she died, and was the sweetest, most even tempered dogs i've ever seen! Miss her alot, but really the lhasa is smarter. Great dogs with kids, too.

I had one, but he got very aggressive and jealous when my daughter was born. He would snarl and snap at her and then run under the table and snarl at me. He had to go live elsewhere because he was a threat to my infant daughter. Lhasas are similar but smarter and more gentle. I own one now, and I love lhasas.

I had one, sweet and cuddly dog. Stayed inside except when romping in the back yard.
