It keeps me company. I rarely fall asleep in the dark with no background noise. I always leave a bathroom light on and I always have the TV going.
I am single and my 2 kids are raised, but that really doesnt have anything to do with it. I kept the TV on in my bedroom while my kids were still both at home. I am not really sure why I do it, but cant seem to fall asleep without the TV going. Is it going to cause cancer or something? Is there some reason I cannot fall asleep without the TV on?

I am no sleep therapist but I did read an article on how people are not getting enough sleep because of this gogogo world. In the article which appeared in the San Jose Mercury News, it stated (from my bad memory) that people differ on how many minutes it takes to "wind down" after a long day. It was interesting to read that some people took up to 45 minutes to wind down. They would usually watch TV or read a book. I believe the most people fall into the 15 to 30 minute range after getting into bed. I do not know why you leave the light on or the TV...it may be out of habit or because you are confortable with the light and tv on which may help you "wind down."

Don't worry, you are in the normal category and I doubt you will get cancer. May I suggest you get a tv with a built in timer on it which turns the tv off by itself after you have fallen asleep.

it is escapism. seek out professional assistance. there is severe childhood issues that you probably do not remember. fear and guilt are a huge part of this. I will not go further. Love you and if you can turn off the tv at night. The fewer electrical devices near you while you sleep the better. The E.M.F. distort your brain functioning. and seriously mess up your body electro magnetics. Total darkness allows proper serotonin, melatonin, dopamine production. And on and on .... seek a qualified and recommended professional with regards to childhood.... ah... trauma.

You are totally normal. I leave my TV on too. I know exactly what you are saying. So either we are normal or we are both totally weird. Either way, at least we aren't alone! And no tvs dont cause cancer unless you are habitually right next to one everyday for hours.

Mostly habit. Part of your nighttime ritual. Don't worry about it my Mrs has been doing it all 36 years we have been married. She does turn it off if she wakes up to pee during the night.
