You don't have a friend that can take care of him?

Two weeks is a long time for a kennel - But, if you could find a good kennel or "pet resort", your dog would be taken out to go to the bathroom and still given one on one attention. That is of course if you found a good one. They are usually $30 a night.

Pet sitters are reasonably priced and charge $15-$30 a day with a walk and will feed them as well. But, with 2 weeks again, that adds up.

You really need to be able to have your dog feel like he hasn't been abandoned. Obviously, if you don't have a fenced in yard right now, your dog still needs to go out. I'd hesitate to rely on workers who are occupied with other things and may forget to let him out or back in.

A lot of hotels allow you to bring your pets now, can you take him with? Go to http://www.hotels.com/advancedSearch.do
and search hotels that allow pets. Some even have daycare.

Don't leave him outside. What if there is an awful thunderstorm? Often in storms animals get nervous and flee for shelter and get lost. Also, people steal dogs or someone might turn him into the ASPCA. It's not a good idea.

Okay, first thing I would do is find out if he can go where you are going ( are you going to be staying with relatives) and if he can't I would call on a friend who is a dog lover/ animal lover that would be willing to help out by either coming by to let your dog out to poop and take for a walk everyday, feed and give water every day as I assume the people living in your house could do also when they get home from work. If you have no one to turn to I'd ask the people who work and live with you to give you the best Christmas present they can which is pay for your dog to be boarded with a reputable vet or kennel. I just hope you can take him with you. My heart goes out to you both!

this is where you barter with your housemates to take care of him for the two weeks and make sure he gets outside etc. and in turn you will do something for them when you return. Ideally you could take him to a dog kennel but you say money is an issue. Do NOT under any circumstances leave him outside for a week. Someone has to care for him and feed him. Is there any neighborhood kid willing to dog sit for a few dollars? Are there any older retired people in your neighborhood who might like the companionship for a bit?

Whew! I left my dog for 2 weeks and a half. I felt very sad and I just wanted to kiss him all over!! <3 But, unfortunately, I couldn't go outside to play with him because it was in the middle of the night when I got home. The next day, when I went out to play with him, he was so happy to see me that he jumped on me! (my dog used to do that all the time when he was happy to see you) I even miss him nowadays when I go for a couple-day trip! It is very hard not to kiss your dog all over after 2 weeks!

Best thing is to borrow the money to have him boarded at your vet. He probably is familiar with vet and most vets that do boarding give excellent care. There are people there all the time so he won't be lonely.

Your best bet is to find a friend he can stay with while you're gone. We have a house sitter stay at our house when we're gone, but before we had 7 katz, we sent our kitties to Grandma's or Aunt Whoever.

I would get an automatic feeder and ask someone to housesit for you or at least check on the dog while you are gone. You can also ask the vet and see if they can boarder the dog.
