A pilot flying a propeller driven airplane crashes into the water. He said his engines lost power and had to ditch the plane in the water. When the plane is pulled from the water, all the propellers are bent forward. Can you tell me how this is possible? And, NO, the plane did not crash backwards. It crashed nose first.

as the propellers spin the leading edge is angled forward. as it hit the water the propellers were spinning and attempting to "pull the water" the propellers were not made for that kind of resistance and bent forward as they spun and chopped into the water

---- the engines couldnt have gone out. i think the riddle should be how can you tell he is lying....

First, I assume you are talking about a multi engine aircraft. That being said, a loss of power does not necessarily mean the propeller stops turning. Since the prop is a rotating wing, it may still turn (windmill) even if the engine stops. If the engine stops, and you have the ability to feather the prop, that will reduce the windmilling effect. I have not seen any aircraft that have crashed into water, but it might seem likely they could be bent forward from the impact of the water. I'd be interested to know the type of airplane and more info on the date, location, of the wreck. I could comment more with that info.
Hope that helps...

The propeller was on the back of the plane, and when the plane hit the water, the force of the splashdown pulled the propellers forward, and by the time the propellers entered the water, the speed of the plane had slowed enough to not bend them the other way.

the plane crashed and then when it was pulled out of the water (tail first) the speed and pressure of the water would have caused the propellers to bend forward.

It crashed right above a water fall and the propellers stuck in a rock while the plan was falling...
