No, you don't need to cut his coat but you do need to keep it well-brushed.

NO NO NO NO NO.

NEVER shave a husky!!! All you have to do is take them to a groomer once or twice in the spring, and have the groomer brush out their undercoat, which will moult profusely when the seasons change.

Husky coats are designed to insulate from ANY weather- if it's hot, they keep the dog cooler, if it's cold, they keep him warmer. Shaving a husky will DESTROY its coat, it will grow back wrong and never look as beautiful again. Please do not even think of doing this! I am a professional groomer and there is no reason on earth to shave ANY sled-type dog!! You won't have to hike up your air, just keep it comfortable for you and he'll be comfy too, just make sure he's indoors with lots of water.

PS You live in Canada? Perfect! Your husky is happy already. :-)

You did not say what State you are in or temps in summer. We do not shave ours as a rule but keep them well brushed out. In the house they will find the cool floor spots to lay. Plenty of water!

Outside they need shade and will typically dig a spot to get to cooler ground. A kiddie pool can be used during the peak hot season. I assume you use the AC when it gets really hot out. Avoid leaving out during the hottest part of day of course. They can adapt to the heat but have limits depending on where you live. And a dog house is not "shade", actually gets like a oven inside.

Some prefer to groom for the hot months and that is a option for her safety if your weather is severly hot.

Huskies have one of the most time consuming coats to deal with. I own one and she's a big spoilled rotten dog!! She sheds 24/7, non-stop. If you don't brush them and groom them EVERY day, you're had!!! They have an undercoat that if it's not cared for properly, they look like they have the mange!!!! Contact a dog groomer and have them instruct you how to groom them and PLEASE do not shave that beautiful dog in the summer. The groomer and instruct you how to care for them in the hot months. You've made a lifetime commitment to one of the most gorgeous and sweetest dogs in the world. Don't make it hard on yourself or the dog, grooming them daily can also be your special time together. Good Luck

Siberians are very adaptable dogs. They do prefer cool weather but most do well in the summer.

You won't have to cut their coat, 'cause they'll do it for you. Twice a year huskies "Blow" their coat... hope you don't mind dog hair on EVERYTHING.

Good luck. Huskies are amazing animals! They are also very hard to train, so have patience!

Nope you dont need to only if you want to. They adjust to the heat it may seem cruel but its not, trust me they will adjust!! Just make sure that it always has plenty of fresh water and maybe even a cooler bed(a special blanket that absorbes water and can stay wet for a couple of dyas.) These arent all that expensice either.

No I think that would be a bad idea. Their long fur keeps them warm in winter and cool in the hot summer. In the summer they will shed a lot I am sure. I think you should keep it inside the house most of the time during summer or take him swimming.

Depends on where you live. But mostlikely you will need to rpovide cooling for part of the day. How about just cooling like one room.

But I think that for the most part if you are not sweating the dog should be okay. But if you are sweating it will be way too hot for your dog.

If all else fails consult your vet.

You will need to cut it if you don't plan to use airconditioning. But not so short that the dog can get sunburned.
