They have to cut their hair. If you're going to bootcamp sometime in the near future, I would suggest getting your hair cut before you go and get it cut short enough to where it's not touching your collar so they don't touch it, trust me you don't want them to cut it for you.

You can't keep it long for Navy boot camp. They are the only ones that make you cut it, and it cannot touch the collar. I suggest cutting yours off before you go so at least you'll know it's cute. And once you're out of training, you can grow it long and keep it pinned up.

It's a fact, the Navy is the only military service that requires woman recruits to cut their hair 1" above the collar. Since you're going to get your hair cut anyway, you can get some cash for your hair at: http://hairbuyer.com

Navy has the only boot camp that requires your hair short. Right above the collar length. Once you leave boot camp you can grow it back out. So, the answer is yes you must cut it & no you can not wear it up.

honestly I was a Air Force recruit in TX, so I do recommend cutting your hair at least 1 inch above the shoulders, it will be easy to Maintain and take care of , there won't be much time to take proper care of of your hair. the female Training Instrcutor's had taught us how to french braid our hair. remember it is standard through out the military no hair out of place it must not touch the collar of the uniform.

Also look for hair tries that match your hair color.

They will cut it about 5 days after you get to boot, once you leave there you will then be able to grow you hair long but have to keep it up when in uniform.

In bootcamp I believe it has to be cut right above a dress collar. I don't know how much they enforce this rule, but in the Army it was in the rules. Good luck!

Women in the Navy
Do women train separately from men?
No. Women undergo the same training as men. Women do have separate living quarters.

What are the grooming requirements for women in Navy?
Women are expected to maintain the same high standards of appearance as men. The only difference is that women are allowed to wear their hair longer, provided it is a style that is easy to maintain and meets certain regulations.

What jobs can women apply for in the Navy?
Women are free to apply for and hold any job in the Navy. However, there are two communities that women are not allowed to join: submarines and Navy SEALs. So, for example, while a woman can be a nuclear engineer, she can’t be a nuclear engineer on a sub.
If you join have fun and remeber its not a job its an adventure.

I think they will cut it no matter how short it is. They want you to feel like you're all the same since everyone gets their hair cut at the same time.
