Mid and large sized SUVs have more space than a midsized sedan.

I think you should get a SUV because you would be able bring all the necessary things and still have some space. Its going to be crowded if you put all that in a sedan.

Also consider getting a minivan too. I think minivans have just as much room as a midsized SUV and it gets better gas mileage than any midsize or large SUV. The 2 minivans I recommend the most is the Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna. Dont consider any other minivan (from any other auto maker. not worth your time and money) The Odyssey and the Sienna are the most reliable and safest minivans in the market.

If you really want a SUV and not a minivan, I suggest getting one of these cars:

Honda Pilot
2006 Acura MDX (you should be able to find a good deal on this model because Acura redesigned the MDX for 2007 and the 07 model is already on the market)
Volvo XC90
Jeep (any model)
Nissan Pathfinder
Toyota 4Runner
VW Tauoreg

I've been where you are and chose the SUV, and have never regretted it. It's amazing what the SUV will haul/carry/deliver that a sedan could never do. In fact, I've often wondered how I did without an SUV, especially during a recent move. Gas mileage on small and mid-sized SUVs is as good or better than many similar sized sedans. When you hear about poor gas mileage on SUVs, they're usually talking about the large versions. Furthermore, the ride, handling, and comfort of newer SUVs is as good as a sedan. The only negative for my mid-sized SUV (Toyota 4Runner) is that it's a little less comfortable on road trips due to large seats and being more susceptible to being blown around by wind and large trucks. I actually just bought a sedan (keeping the SUV) just for road trips.

Unless you're talking about a small SUV compared to a large sedan, there is in fact quite a bit of difference in room. If space is your primary concern, SUVs have head room, lots of shoulder room, and you can pile the trunk to the ceiling. Usually SUVs have double the cargo room. If safety is a concern as well, I would recommend an SUV, as long as you know how to properly drive it they are safest next to trucks. If you don't have experience driving a large vehicle in harsh conditions and SUV can be your worst enemy, but otherwise in an accident with anything except a larger SUV or Semi, you will be fine. The only draw back in my opinion to SUVs is even a fuel efficient SUV will get only about 20-24 miles to the gallon on the highway. If all else fails in your decision, think about this. What do soccer mom's stereo-typically drive, SUVs or sedans?

Hello and good morning. You have 1 kid. Allthough space is not a problem if you compare between SUV and Sedan. Bu8t, if you take my opinion. SUV looks big. Whr as a Sedan looks good. They both serve the perppose. sedan is suitable for all ocasions. Camping trips- yes. Family Functions- Yes. Executive or official parties- yes. Shopping- Yes. the trunk Space in Sedan is also in sme ways equivalent to a SUV. Moreover, Sedan is more comfortable. Good leg space also. looking for the driver's comfort and i'd suggest a sedan again. Thank you

Try a bit of both.. search for crossovers aka CUV's. (Ford's Freestyle, or the Edge that comes out soon... sorry thats all I can think of at the moment)

When the kids are old enough to have friends come along everywhere, a sedan won't suffice.

Most sedans seat only 5-6 adults including driver, while CUVs and SUVs (With the 3rd row) will seat 7-9.

SUVs usually have high roofs, so you can sit more upright and so have more space. Also, they have room for luggage and buggies in the back. A Toureg is an equivalent to a big car, though: a mid-size would be a Cherokee or Forester. I now have a Vitara, that is small as SUVs go, and my wife and children find it fine.

Do not get an SUV! The cost of fuel is way to expensive. Ex. Like suburbans or excursions. Doge Caravans are Good for 2 kids and Poniac makes great family cars.
