Even when I drink equivalent quantities of alcohol (e.g. two small glasses of wine vs two shots of whisky), the wine makes me more drunk, and faster as well.

Also, why is it bad to mix drinks like beer and vodka? Can anyone give me a good chemical or biological explanation?

I have the same reaction to wine. I've read it's because of the nitrites in the wine. Some people don't handle them well. Three beers, I'm fine. One tiny glass of wine, I need to sleep.
