We took our 4 month old puppy to the vet to get dewormed for the first time, we noticed he had worms because they were in his droppings, and now he's starting to vomit a slimy liquid mixed with his food. We didn't notice anything unusual in his vomit, but we just wanted to know if this is normal after he's been given his medication. All the vet gave was a pill, also he is taking treatment for a infection in his ear, but thats not taken orally...

It doesn't normally cause vomiting but it could have upset your puppy's stomach. The worms can also cause vomiting so he may just still be sick from the worms. If it's just a couple times, he should be ok. If he starts vomiting excessively, it could be an allergic reaction and you would need to get him to an emergency vet ASAP. Did he get any shots today? Vomiting excessively can also be a sign of allergic reactions to vaccines.

That poor pup should have been dewormed at about 5-7 wks. and then 2-3 more times as a younger pup! Maybe you didn't know. His tummy is probably pretty messed up from having the worms so long. And he will need to be dewormed again in a few weeks to make sure all gone. If he only vomits a few times and just as you described i would not be too worried. As long as eating and drinking. He should start gaining some weight now also. You should see the dead worms being passed. do watch for bloody stool or continued vomiting and call the vet back. Or if can't keep food/water down call quick.

Deworming meds don't usually cause vomitting. He could have had a reaction to the pill, but if he continues to vomit after several hours or days I would call the vet back asap.
The ear meds also should not cause this problem, but again stranger things have happened.
It is safe to give your puppy Pepcid-AC which is Famotadine at 5 mg per 20lbs. Give it every 12 hrs for 3 days, then once for 3 days, then every other day for 5 days.
Call your vet for advice. Since you were just there they can give you some hints or have you pick up different meds.

Some animals can have upset stomachs after taking these meds. I would watch him...if he keeps doing it and not eating/drinking, he needs to see the vet right away. It probably has nothing to do with the ear drops. It is very common....just make sure that there is no blood in the vomit. If he still does it a couple days from now....call you vet. Good luck

not as a general rule...but each case is different. The treatment at the vet seems normal. I would call the office in the morning and speak to a tech about the vomiting. Make sure your dog is still drinking fluids this evening.

Dogs vomit from having the worms in the first place. The medicine does not make him puke. He'll be okay but it'll take a while.
