Say were given a gift of $25,000, the caveat being you could only spend it on one of these two options, your wedding or as a down payment on a house...which would you choose and why?
personally, I happily eloped and if I had had that option would have a house already...

I would spend the money on the wedding you only get that experience once I hope and I am going all out . I have a town house that I love and might never leave.

A House. This is not only wise but a great investment. Buying a house is like getting a gift that keeps on giving. This is why I say this, If you sell that house say 5-7 years from now you could make anywhere from 30-50% what you put down on that house depending on where you live.
Houses rarely depreciate and this is the first thing that people like Donald Trump (Billionaires) will tell you. Get a House!

Eventhough i'm getting married next February i'd say spend it on a house.
But $25,000 is a lot for a down payment, don't you think?

Yes, every woman dreams of "that special day" in her life. Her Wedding day. She wants it to be as pefect as it can be and better yet, have no budget!

I'm getting married at the local courthouse with closest friends and family only (about 20 - 30 people)
Me and my fiance have been looking at houses and we've even thought about building one.

So i'd definitely spend that money on a house!!

Plus, buying/building a house is the most important and biggest investment you'll ever make in your life.

House. You can have a nice wedding without spending so much money. You don't need an expensive wedding, but having a house when you are just starting out would make life a lot easier.

I had this option and I bought a house. Best investment ever. Plus if you don't end up getting married for some reason, you have a house - just make sure you only put the house in your name. I would never suggest putting his name on the house if you are not married...catch 22!

Common sense says house, but that's really hard if you ask someone who never had a beautiful wedding.

I'd get the house but that doesn't mean I wouldn't save up some money for a nice wedding too!

On a house for sure. NO doubt! Weddings are usually done to please the guest and family members for about 5 hrs or more. Houses will be there for a long time. I would go for the house. Think about you and ur future, not about others. Plus small weddings are also nice and elegant as well.

A house because after your savings on having such a big down payment on a house or buying a trailer with that amount, you will be able to afford a nice belated honeymoon or wedding celebration of some sort.

I would take the money and buy something thats going to last the test of time .Rather than spend it on one night of being with friends and family. You can still have a great wedding on a low budget and have yrs of memories to boot. These days people are just into the one night drunks and free what evers.Do it for yourself and enjoy the mment

Purchasing a house is a best option. I would definitely would want to purschase a house. However, a wife is very important. These days getting a wife is expensive. You pay a lot for weddings related staffs. Most woman wants wedding ceremony. But if I can get one who does not want it, I would definitely go for a house and take a bit of that money and pay for lobola (money we pay to girl's family for getting permission to marry her.
