Don't listen to those who have tried to dissuade you from persuing this career. I believe that Christian based counseling is the MOST EFFECTIVE tool to help those who struggle with problems in life. So much of counseling today is based upon a humanistic view point.

Example: A humanistic counselor will deal with a couple having marital problems by asking the husband "what are you doing to make your wife happy?" Or the wife, "what are you doing to make your husband happy?"

This is getting the cart before the horse. A Christian based counselor will ask "How is your walk with Christ and how would Christ have you treat your wife?" He would also deal with the concept that no person can truly fulfill another. If we are expecting our spouse to fulfill us we are asking to be dissappointed for no man or woman is perfect. When the husband or wife look together to God for their fulfillment then they are more understanding of each other and actually more motivated to treat each other in a Christlike manner.

See the difference? So GO FOR IT! We don't have enough Christian counselors. Many congregations are now recognizing the need for this and are employing Christian counselors. You can also set up a private practice and seek referrals from Christian churches throughout the community. Probably easier to do this in large metropolitan areas, but our local minister in our church in a town of 18,000 is trained in Christian counseling and does a superb job as a part of his ministry.

Much good will come from this!

Some mega-churches employ counselors. Most likely you will need to go independent. The need is enormous. Be sure to touch base w/ local pastors so they know/trust you for referals.
Thank you. Take care of yourself in the demanding ministry.

Considering that there are no such things as gods, any of the fraud professions associated with Christian cultism will make a wonder full career. TV evangelist, faith healer, pedophile clergyman all create opportunities to use and fleece the sheeple gullible enough to swallow the god lie. Good luck.
