We can try but, I agree with you. I can't love some people who are horrible people. I don't wish any harm to anyone. I just don't love everyone. I love many, many people. My love is not automatic, it must be earned. I'm not saving my love and I try to reach out to people. If that makes me a bad person, so be it.

>how can you love your enemy?

You make a choice to, and practice that choice knowing that it is the best one. Its almost impossible, but not impossible.

>why not save your love for the ones that deserve it?

Because the following happens: revenge killings, war, misunderstandings, division, clan wars, etc. etc.

Observing your Avatar, I would not want to be your enemy. But you see god doesn’t have a problem deep-frying his own enemies, which leads me to believe there’s a great contradiction in the bible, namely that god teaches to love your enemies while he roasts his. Hmmm, what is one to make of this god?

One of the most difficult but important practices is to love your enemy.

Why is it important to love your enemy?

Because it shows that in your 'heart' (mind, whatever) that you realize that they are fellow human beings suffering just like yourself. That you are not really separate from them, but a part of them. That you are wise enough to see past their anger and see the real human beneath it.

Your enemy is the one that needs help, if you love your enemy, then you are like God.

when you love yourself
you see the good in everyone, the fact that you are breathing indicates that other breathing folks have something in common with you.
many others are attracted to your energy and self assurance
or
they will stay away because they do not want to do the work
necessary to keep the poison people away

yep I agree that it's difficult to have love for your enemies, but the Bible does tells us that we must. God must have had a good reason to say this...maybe by loving your enemy, hopefully by your example, that enemy will change.

for me I put it in a context which I can relate to. I do not like someone that is hateful, but I love them enough to not want to see them die or suffer. I take no delight in revenge or seeing them fail.
