I'm depressed, started smoking again, and am gaining weight. The doc said Wellbutrin is the perfect fit and it helps with sex drive, which I have zero of. My question is, will Wellbutrin just keep me from getting worse or will it increase my sex drive? I've been with the same guy for 4 years and it's starting to hurt our relationship. I want to feel better in that aspect of my life!

yes most likely it will increase your sex drive, it's not gauranteed but increased sex drive is a very common side effect of wellbutrin

How should I take Wellbutrin?
Take Wellbutrin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Too much of this medicine can increase your risk of a seizure.
Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Swallow it whole.
Do not stop using Wellbutrin suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to safely stop using this medicine.
This medicine can cause you to have a false positive drug screening test. If you provide a urine sample for drug screening, tell the laboratory staff that you are taking Wellbutrin.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

A lack of sexual interest and decreased sex drive and increased appetite and weight gain can be symptoms of depression. If your depression is causing this then the Wellbutrin may improve it. Since you're on it try to stop smoking. Wellbutrin is the same drug as Zyban (just different brand names) which is specifically given to smokers to help them quit. It GREATLY reduces the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. If it doesn't help there are a variety of other types of antidepressants that may work.

I have been on Wellbutrin for about a year and I have noticed that I am much more "sexed up". I actually have a hard time getting through the day without looking at porn. This is much higher than it used to be...of course lots of guys look at porn but for me it has certainly increased...as far as in the bedroom is concerned...the Welbutrin has made orgasm far better...it's almost like feeling a huge chemical in your brain exploding during orgasm...it feels awesome but I fear that sex will be not as good if I ever get off of the drug

I have a couple of friends who have tried it, with other anti-depressants like Lexapro, as a "boost" and it definitely helped their energy level, improved their mood, and their sex drive increased. It took at least 6-8 weeks to take effect. But every drug works differently with each person, and your sex drive is something that can be affected by so many factors...
If Wellbutrin doesn't work, please try another anti-depressant, don't live with depression if you don't have to! I wish my friends had taken it earlier, since they spent a long time being miserable...Good luck!!

It won't decrease you sex drive like other antidepressants, but I don't know if it will increase it. I have been taking it for 14 years and it hasn't helped mine. But it affects each person differently. Hope it helps you.

These intense feelings should subside, when I started taking Welbutrin alot of my feelings were intense and very strange to me I would suggest you wait another 2 weeks and see how you feel. After that if you are feeling the same way you are now I would contact your doctor.
